Jump Starting Women in Mobility Group in Detroit
Back in 2018 a group of local women working in Detroit’s automotive and mobility industries saw a need to develop a community around the industry for women to seek support and network. Women in Mobility was born. For over a year, WiM existed as an ad hoc group which hosted various meetups and grew a following of more than 200 women.
A few months, I joined the 2020 planning team and began putting some strategy and formal operations behind WiM. This planning team is made up of four women that I have had the pleasure of knowing for the last few years and it is an honor to get to work with them on this project. These women are: Caroline Choudhury, Transportation Coordinator at Bedrock; Stacey Matlen, Senior Mobility Strategist at the City of Detroit; Hind Ourahou, Senior Mobility Strategist at the City of Detroit; and Kristin Saw, Communications and Public Involvement Coordinator at WSP.
Building on the amazing foundation set into motion by the group's founders, we have been hard at work developing a website, formalizing a newsletter, and strategically planning ways to engage and support our automotive and mobility community in the Detroit region. Today we launched our very own Women in Mobility website as well as sent our very first newsletter!
The feedback from the community has already been amazing! And this is just the beginning!
In the future we look forward to sharing more WiM plans with everyone and hopefully restarting the Women in Mobility Meetups once we are free of COVID quarantine. In the meantime, if you’re interested in joining, visit www.womeninmobilitydetroit.com and sign up for the newsletter!
