The Six Mobility Podcasts You Should be Listening To [2020 Update]

“What podcasts do you listen to?” is a question that I get again and again. Just like “mobility” events, industry podcasts are everywhere and it is hard to weed through which ones should be a priority. So for the last three years I have published a list of the mobility podcasts that I think are most worth while (2018, 2019) and these lists have been my top shared and read posts each year.

So in a time of uncertainty and COVID-19 quarantine, I figured there was no better time than to publish my 2020 list:

Autonocast

In the last year, Autonocast has become a “must listen” for me every week. Hosted by Kirsten Korosec of Techcrunch, Alex Roy formerly of The Drive (now of Argo AI), and Ed Niedermeyer of Automotive News, the podcast covers automation, autonomy, self-driven cars and trucks, electrification, mobility and the politics and policy around the future of transportation for an unbiased (of their employers) look at the industry.

Automotive News Shift

Created by Automotive News, Shift takes an optimistic yet skeptical eye at the new tech and business models planned for the automotive industry. Weekly episodes cover a recap of the news of the week and an interview with a leading industry news maker.

I also recommend Automotive News’ Weekend Drive. Although this one is often more auto industry focused than the rest, if you’re looking for something short and to the point look no further. This podcast, which is published on Saturday mornings, is only 10 minutes long but is packed with all of the trends and big stories you should know about.

No Parking

No Parking is a podcast about self-driving vehicles, artificial intelligence, and how technology will actually change our daily lives, hosted by outlaw rally racer Alex Roy and Argo AI CEO Bryan Salesky. This podcasts features and impressive roster of guests and two friends — an expert and a contrarian — having honest conversations about how it all actually works, and whether it will (or won’t) change our lives.

CoMotion

CoMotion focuses on bringing together the new world of the urban mobility during and takes a look at the revolution that is set to transform every city in the world, large and small. Inspired from their CoMotion events in L.A. and Miami, this show features guests from across the country and focuses on city case studies that an inspire other communities.

Autoline This Week

I met John McElroy early in my career and he has always been someone I’ve trusted to give a fair assessment of the industry as well as a realistic outlook on where the industry is going and trends. But it wasn’t until very recently that I started listening to Autoline This Week regularly. This show features in-depth discussions of the most important trends and developments shaping the automotive industry with industry executives and the top auto journalists in a short 30-minute episode.

Driven

This one has made all three lists. I forever will be promoting Driven—the publication I launched in 2017, managed during my time as Director of MICHauto, and now oversee as a client at Lambert—because it fills a much needed role in the mobility narrative. Often times pushed to the side as a manufacturing hub (or metal benders), the Detroit region needs the stories that Driven is producing to provide a complete look at just what this region can do. The Driven podcast captures and tells the stories of how the automotive and tech industries are changing the way the world moves. The podcast provides additional insight through exclusive audio interviews with industry stakeholders, leaders, entrepreneurs, educators, and more.

Do you have a favorite mobility and future transportation podcast? I’m always looking for something new to listen to so leave a comment here on what else I should be listening to.
